In a surprise move, the leadership of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, March 15, stripped former president rodrego duterte and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and ten anti death penalty lawmakers of their respective key positions as part of the new policy that requires majority bloc officials to support priority administration measures.
Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas, in a last minute move prior to the declaration of the summer break, moved to declare vacant the seats occupied by majority officials who thumbed down House bill 4727 or the bill restoring the death penalty.
Committee chairmanships declared vacant last Wednesday (March 15) were the following: civil service, chaired by Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto LP, Batangas; government reorganization, Rep. (Henedina Abad LP, Batanes) who was absent during the voting last March 8; muslim affairs, Rep. Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman PL, Anak Mindanao; environment and natural resources, Rep. Carlos Zarate PL, Bayan Muna; overseas workers affairs, (Mariano Michael Velarde PL, Buhay); special committee on land use, Christopher Belmonte LP, Quezon City; people’s participation, Arlene Bag-ao (LP, Dinagat Island poverty alleviation, Emmi de Jesus PL, Gabriela; women and gender equality, Emmeline Aglipay-Villar PL, DIWA; public information, (Antonio Tinio) and basic education and culture, Rep. Evelina Escudero NPC, Sorsogon who was immediately replaced by party mate Rep. Ramon Durano VI.
The former president Duterete thanked President Duterte for his expression of understanding late last year regarding my position on the issue.
he House of Representatives is on recess starting March 16 until May 1.
The Speaker said no one will be given special consideration, including Arroyo, the former president and his former boss who once appointed him as transportation secretary.
